Sacred Service Opportunities

Temple Buddhist Center volunteers play a crucial role in supporting events and services. Every volunteer’s time is valuable, whether it’s one hour or an ongoing commitment.

We also offer some suggestions for volunteering with our partners below. Whether it’s helping at a local food bank, participating in environmental clean-ups, planting trees, or contributing to social causes, there are many ways to make a positive impact in your community.

Thank you for your sacred service!

Volunteer with our Partners

  • Bridging the Gap

Do you love being outdoors and connecting with nature? Are you driven to improve your community and the environment? Come volunteer with us! Bridging The Gap not only educates the community about the environment, but also we engage people in taking action. Together, with our volunteers and program leaders, we do the physical work it takes to restore our environment by planting trees, picking up litter, removing invasive species, and much more.

  • Mimi's Pantry

Nearly 1 in 7 families in our community are “food insecure”, meaning they are not sure they will have the ability to meet their food needs from one day to the next. Many times these families will have unexpected expenses come up which disrupts their monthly budgets and makes providing food to the family a major challenge. Mimi’s Pantry aims to be a temporary stop-gap for individuals and families in this type of predicament.

We are a state of the art pantry offering a full range of food items needed to provide a nourishing, balanced meal. The pantry is stocked with boxed and canned goods, along with a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and frozen meats. One of the unique features of Mimi’s Pantry is the library of books available for our clients to take home. Many times there isn’t enough money left in the budget to buy books for the family members. Research has proven that proficient reading skills are a major factor in a child’s success in school.

  • Welcome House

Somewhere in our community, a man is waking up to fight the same demons he faced the night before. But he desperately wants to get his life back. A life free of alcohol and drugs. A life free of the pain and destruction that shadows his addiction.

Thankfully, there’s a place called Welcome House – a place that for more than 50 years has helped men in Kansas City write new chapters of recovery, hope, and miracles in their lives.

Through evidence-based practices in rehabilitation and a holistic approach unique to each resident, Welcome House changes lives for the better. The reach of our program extends beyond just the men challenged by addiction, but impacts the lives of their families and loved ones as well.
